New Vision

Megan Lamkin is the coordinator of the Learning Garden Program. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Plant Biology from Ohio University and a Master’s Degree in Plant Pathology from Purdue, Megan is sharing her expertise and vision for a totally organic Learning Garden Program. Here Megan signs "yes", encouraging student Alexis Shelton to taste an edible plant called Nasturtium.

Megan has made the gardens less labor intensive by planting more perennials. Most of the annuals are vegetables and herbs. Students have planted asparagus, rhubarb, peas, cabbage, and wheatgrass. Megan plans to start a program called “Grow a Row for the Hungry”, which would give St. Rita students an opportunity to grow food in the Learning Gardens for needy people in the community. Megan’s primary goal of the Learning Garden Program is to help students reconnect with the earth.
