Through our work study program, our students get a wide variety of opportunities to explore their interests. One of our students is interested in working at a restaurant, so we set her up with a job shadowing experience at Jeff Ruby Steakhouse. She helped prepare shrimp, made meatballs, made ice cream, and the mixed the sweet and sour mix for drinks. She also practiced slicing carrot cake and chocolate cake.
Our students go on these job shadowing experience with a job coach who can interpret for them or help them navigate any communication barriers. Well, this experience was different because the woman this student was shadowing attended St. Rita! She started here as a little girl and attended through middle school.
