We learned a lot, shared ideas, and got ready for a week full of trainings to prepare for welcoming our students back next week. 💚💛

A big thank you to our president, Angie, and to Raffel’s Catering for fueling us with such a delicious start.

#throwbackthursday 🌲🙏
As we get ready to head back to school, we came across one of our favorite photos Fr. Waldhaus, the first president of St. Rita School for the Deaf, standing in prayer in the woods before our main building was constructed in 1924.

This powerful image reminds us that St. Rita was built on faith. From the beginning, Fr. Waldhaus trusted that God would guide and protect this school, and He still does!

Fr. Waldhaus didn’t just pray; he took action. He started with just 11 students in a small schoolhouse. As families saw their children learning and thriving, more and more came. Students succeeded, graduated, and built meaningful lives, and their parents continued to send them to St. Rita.

Seeing the growing need, Fr. Waldhaus dreamed and built bigger. He believed with all his heart that children with disabilities could do anything, and he made sure the world knew it too. 💚💛

That same spirit lives on today. Our staff returns next week to prep classrooms, complete training, and get ready to welcome our students, who arrive in just two weeks!

A huge thank you to these amazing young fundraisers who chose St. Rita School for the Deaf as their very first cause to support!
Despite battling off-and-on thunderstorms on their first afternoon, they raised $103 to donate to our school. Rain or shine, their hearts were all in 💛💚

We’re incredibly grateful for their generosity and proud to see such kindness in action. 🤟🫶🏻🤟

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Teri Loch, a longtime member of the St. Rita family.

Teri spent many years at St. Rita School for the Deaf as a dedicated teacher, mentor, and friend. Her love for science and all things “slimy" made learning unforgettable for so many students. She brought joy, curiosity, and kindness to every corner of our school.

Please keep her family and all of Teri’s loved ones, in your thoughts and prayers.

A visitation will be held on August 2nd at 10:00 AM at Spring Grove Funeral Home, with prayers to follow at the burial site.

Rest in peace, Ms. Loch. You will always be part of the St. Rita family. 🕊️

Did you know St. Rita once had a full farm across the street? 🌽🌾

We recently came across a 1926 report written by our first president, Fr. Waldhaus. At that time, the school had 120 students, and get this:
They used 6,000 lbs of milk per month, averaging 25 gallons a day from just 8 cows! 🐄🥛
The farm included 10 horses, 8 cows, 4 calves, 1 bull, 4 sows, and 31 goats
238 acres were used to grow wheat, corn, and hay 🌽

Pretty amazing, right? We wish we still had the farm today! it would be an incredible hands-on learning experience for our students! 💚💛
