After learning about the Joe Burrow World Teen Mental Wellness Day program, one of our work study classes, led by Ms. Molly, was enthusiastic to apply for the grant. They worked together to come up with a plan to commemorate the day, applied, and we are proud to say their grant application was accepted! #proudteacher

Students receive a writing prompt with a picture twice a week. They create simple sentences in ASL and then practice translating them into English.

One student came up with the ASL sentence “boy in the classroom.” When asked to translate it into English, he wrote “classroom in boy.” Once the students realized what the sentence meant, they burst into laughter at how funny—and incorrect—it sounded! Ms. Megan joined in by acting it out, pretending to put classroom objects inside the boy’s body.

Ms. Megan then encouraged the students to think about how the sentence should be fixed. After some discussion, one student figured it out! Moments like these show that learning how to write sentences can be both engaging and fun.
