🇺🇸 September 11 —Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. We remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes and first responders who showed extraordinary courage that day. Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember and honor them.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

May we continue to pray for peace, healing, and unity in our nation and throughout the world. 🇺🇸 We will never forget.

🤟 Deaf Awareness Month.. One of our seniors asked our students a simple question:
“How does it make you feel when someone already knows ASL and can communicate with you?”
Their answers say a lot. 💚 Learning ASL is more than learning signs. It can help create connections, make communication easier, and help people feel included. Interested in learning ASL? St. Rita offers Wednesday evening ASL classes! Visit our webpage for more information and registration https://www.srsdeaf.org/page/sign-language-class

Behind the Scenes in Digital Media! Last week in Mr. Jon’s Digital Media class, one of our seniors worked on editing one of our St. Rita traditions: our seniors signing the Pledge of Allegiance for the end of our Morning Announcements! 🇺🇸
It’s a great opportunity for our students to practice their video editing skills while helping create something that is shared with our entire school.

Deaf Awareness Month: Let’s Learn! We’re bringing back one of our favorite videos for Deaf Awareness Month! Did you know facial expressions are an important part of American Sign Language? They can help communicate meaning, emotion, and even change how a message is understood.

One of our students is here to show you different expressions using facial movements. Watch closely and try them yourself! Learning about Deaf culture and ASL is one more way we can understand and connect with one another.

✏️ Better Together! 🎨 In Ms. Sarah's class, after reading about how a pencil and eraser can work TOGETHER to make beautiful artwork, students had the chance to work together by swapping papers every few minutes to create their own masterpieces! What a fun way to bring our Better Together theme into the classroom!

Another fun discovery from our archives! While going through old CD-ROMs, we found one labeled “When in Rome” 2012 and, of course, we had to see what was on it. 💿 We found these photos from the play! Do you remember When in Rome? Were you in it, helped behind the scenes, or watched it from the audience? And most importantly... was it a good show? Let us know what you remember in the comments! We hope you enjoy another trip down memory lane, all the way back to 2012.

Who loves reading? 🙋‍♂️ These students in Ms. Alex's class sure do! During quiet time, they took a little time to relax, get comfortable, and enjoy a good book. And here's something extra special: these photos were taken by one of our Digital Media class students, who is learning and practicing photography skills!

🔬 Getting ready for a year of discovery! Students in Ms. Kindra's Science class spent time exploring some of the tools and equipment they'll be using throughout the school year. Learning how to use the right tools is the first step toward experimenting, discovering, and becoming young scientists! We can't wait to see what they explore this year!

Come take a tour of our classroom! One of our students is taking us around her classroom and showing some of the places, materials, and things she uses throughout her school day. From where she learns to some of her favorite classroom spaces, she gives us a look at school from her perspective!

We love giving our students opportunities to share their experiences and seeing St. Rita through their eyes. 💚
Enjoy the tour!

Meet the newest members of our St. Rita team! We are excited to introduce four staff members who have recently joined the St. Rita family! Two joined us earlier this spring, while two officially began their journey with us on the first day of school.
Each of them brings their own talents, experiences, and passion to our community, and we are grateful to have them as part of our team.

Please join us in giving them a warm St. Rita welcome! We look forward to working, learning, and growing alongside them throughout the year.

Another great reminder that we truly are Better Together!

As we prepare for our first Morning Announcements after Labor Day, we came across a special video from the late 1990s. In this clip, former St. Rita teacher and school counselor Sally Monahan teaches the ASL alphabet during Morning Announcements. Sally was well known throughout the St. Rita community and made a lasting impact on many of our students and staff & teachers during her years here.
Sally passed away in 2006, but moments like this allow us to remember her and the difference she made at St. Rita. We're grateful to have this piece of our history preserved in our archives. Enjoy this special throwback of Sally teaching the ABCs in ASL!
