🇺🇸 September 11 —Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. We remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes and first responders who showed extraordinary courage that day. Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember and honor them.

🤟 Deaf Awareness Month.. One of our seniors asked our students a simple question:
“How does it make you feel when someone already knows ASL and can communicate with you?”

Behind the Scenes in Digital Media! Last week in Mr. Jon’s Digital Media class, one of our seniors worked on editing one of our St. Rita traditions: our seniors signing the Pledge of Allegiance for the end of our Morning Announcements! 🇺🇸

Deaf Awareness Month: Let’s Learn! We’re bringing back one of our favorite videos for Deaf Awareness Month! Did you know facial expressions are an important part of American Sign Language? They can help communicate meaning, emotion, and even change how a message is understood.

✏️ Better Together! 🎨 In Ms. Sarah's class, after reading about how a pencil and eraser can work TOGETHER to make beautiful artwork, students had the chance to work together by swapping papers every few minutes to create their own masterpieces! Fall is just around the corner; now is a great time to go through those closets! 🍂 If you're finishing a home renovation, cleaning out the house, or saying goodbye to summer clothes you no longer need, consider donating them to the green Clothes Bin on the St. Rita campus.

As we prepare for our first Morning Announcements after Labor Day, we came across a special video from the late 1990s. In this clip, former St. Rita teacher and school counselor Sally Monahan teaches the ASL alphabet during Morning Announcements. Sally was well known throughout the St. Rita community and made a lasting impact on many of our students and staff & teachers during her years here.
Sally passed away in 2006, but moments like this allow us to remember her and the difference she made at St. Rita. We're grateful to have this piece of our history preserved in our archives. Enjoy this special throwback of Sally teaching the ABCs in ASL!
