Career Exploration Starts Early: Part 2! The Muddy Mutts experience didn’t stop with our older students! Because Ms. Megan volunteered her dog to be groomed, her K–1 students had the opportunity to peek inside the Muddy Mutts mobile grooming van! 🐶 Before the grooming began, students got to see the setup inside the van and learn a little about what a mobile pet groomer does. What a fun way to introduce our younger students to a different career and learn something new! Thank you, Muddy Mutts, for giving our students another great hands-on learning experience! 🐾

🐾 Our First Wellness Wednesday of the School Year! Today, Ms. Abby hosted our first Wellness Wednesday of the school year, and we had some very special four-legged visitors! Five therapy dogs came to St. Rita to spend time with our students while they enjoyed reading together. 🐶

There were so many great moments throughout the day. One of our students is allergic to dogs, but thanks to technology, they were still able to participate from the classroom through FaceTime and read with a dog virtually! 📱🐾 We also had some students who were nervous or afraid of dogs and had never petted a dog before. It was wonderful watching them slowly build their confidence, overcome their fear, and eventually feel comfortable enough to pet a dog for the very first time!

A huge thank you to Ms. Abby for organizing and running this wonderful event! We also want to thank Pet Partners of Greater Cincinnati and their wonderful therapy dog teams for visiting St. Rita and creating such a special experience for our students.

Exploring What Comes Next! Our Work Study students have been learning about post-secondary options and enjoyed a presentation from RIT/NTID today! It was a great opportunity for our students to learn more about their options after high school and start thinking about what their futures could look like.

From our orchard history to today! In Mrs. Kim’s class, students are learning how to peel apples and turn them into homemade applesauce!

And here’s a fun connection to St. Rita’s history, according to an issue of The Silent Advocate from 1917, St. Rita once had its own orchard. That year, students collected around 100 bushels of apples and stored them in the cellar for the winter. They also made 30 gallons of applesauce, 10 gallons of apple jelly, and even apple vinegar! 🍎

More than 100 years later, our students are still learning through hands-on experiences with apples. We love seeing a little piece of St. Rita history come to life again in the classroom!

#throwbackthursday. Did You Know? When this St. Rita building was completed in 1957, part of the building already had three stories, but the main hallway section had only two floors. Ten years later, a third-floor hallway and additional space were added to provide more room for classrooms and science. Over the years, some of the third floor was also used as dorm space for students.

A lot has changed since then! St. Rita no longer has a dorm, and today the third floor is home to our SLP services, while the second floor includes many of our offices.

Same building. Different generations. So many years of St. Rita history within these walls!
